Mexico's Copper Canyon - 3 stars
Day 1 Arrival at Los Mochis Airport. Reception by local driver-guide and transfer along farmland to the colonial El Fuerte, a sleepy town with a remarkable past. Overnight in Posada del Hidalgo. Day 2 Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to train station and begin an adventurous journey on-board the 'Chepe' train. After travelling along Septentrion River, the train begins a steep access into canyon lands. Crossing wide stretched bridges and sweeping through several tunnels we reach Bahuichivo. Land transfer to Cerocahui. Afternoon excursion to Viewpoint Cerro Gallegos with a breathtaking outlook into the Urique Canyon. Return transfer to Cerocahui. Overnight Hotel Mision. Day 3 Breakfast at the hotel. Free time to discover rural town Cerocahui on your own. By midday transfer to the train station Bahuichivo to continue train ride to Posada Barrancas. Here you stay at Hotel Mirador which has been built right on canyon edge with spectacular views into Copper Canyon. Every room has a balcony with a canyon view! Afternoon excursion to Divisadero to encounter bizarre rock formations like the Balancing Rock. Overnight Hotel Mirador. Day 4 Breakfast at the hotel. Free time to enjoy hikes along Canyon ridge to several viewpoints. Afternoon continue on train 'El Chepe' to wild west town Creel. Overnight Hotel The Lodge at Creel. Day 5 Breakfast at the hotel. Excursion to Lake Arareka and visit of close by rock formations (Elephant Rock). Continue to Mision Cusarare with its impressive church. Visit next doors museum with an acclaimed collection of 12 oil paintings which were found in 1967 during renovation work. Short hike through a pine forest to picturesque waterfalls of Cusarare. Return transfer to Creel train station where you continue train ride to Chihuahua. Dinner in train restaurant. Overnight Hotel Palacio del Sol. Day 6 Breakfast at the hotel. City tour of the state capital Chihuahua, Mexico’s largest state. Visit historical Revolution Museum where one of Mexico's most known heroes used to live, Francisco 'Pancho' Villa. Afternoon transfer to airport Chihuahua.
