Oaxaca is best known for its expressions of culture and history and for its mix of pre-hispanic treasures and colonial patrimony, as well as for its music, dance, painting, traditions, colonial architecture, and culinary arts. The Spanish founded Oaxaca City in 1529 becoming the most important place in Southern Mexico. Its centre is a maze of colonial buildings and pedestrian only boulevards. This very Spanish city is best explored from the heart of the city, the Zocalo. Here you will find cafes, bars, Indian crafts from around the hills and street musicians serenading the passer by.
The Camino Real Oaxaca is unique in all of México. Housed in a former convent of Santa Catalina with 91 rooms on two floors.
Hostal de la Noria is housed in a beautifully restored colonial mansion and has featured in several interior magazines for its unique design.
