Cancun
Situated on the Yucatan Peninsula facing the Caribbean Sea, Cancun has two parts: the Hotel Zone, a narrow island where luxury high rise hotels and the beach are the main attractions; and the downtown district, a booming city located on the mainland. Separating the two is the Laguna Nichupte. Once a small fishing village, the area underwent a transformation beginning in 1974 and today is a world famous resort town.
